Abbot of the Holy Dormition Univ Lavra Named Archbishop and Metropolitan of Prešov

Biographical note
The Reverend Hieromonk Jonah was born November 21, 1974, in Levoca, Slovakia. He received his initial theological education at the Prešov Seminary. On July 11, 1998, he was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Jan Hirka. In the autumn of 2004, he entered the Holy Dormition Univ Lavra. In 2018, he defended his PhD on Studite monasticism at the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome. Afterward, he served as abbot at St. Michael’s Monastery in Lviv. On June 18, 2020, he was elected abbot of the Holy Dormition Univ Lavra. Apart from Slovak and Ukrainian, he speaks Italian, English, French, Polish and German.
