Auxiliary Bishop Appointed for the Wrocław-Koszalin Eparchy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church
On July 10, 2025, the Vatican announced that Pope Leo XIV, having approved the decision of the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), has appointed Fr. Mariusz Toma Dmyterko as Auxiliary Bishop of the Eparchy of Wrocław-Koszalin of the UGCC in Poland.

Biographical Summary
Fr. Mariusz Toma Dmyterko was born on December 29, 1979, in Bytów, Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland, into a large farming family. He completed his secondary education at the Taras Shevchenko General Lyceum in Biały Bór. In 1999, he entered the Metropolitan Seminary in Lublin and pursued studies in philosophy and theology at the Catholic University of Lublin, earning a master’s degree in theology in 2005.
He was ordained a deacon on June 5, 2005, in Miastko, and received priestly ordination on August 20, 2005, in Biały Bór. His ordaining bishop was Volodymyr Yushchak. That same year, he began pastoral service at the Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Legnica and taught Greek Catholic catechism in schools in Legnica, Dębica, Rosochaty, and Wągrodnia.
In 2006, Fr. Mariusz enrolled at the Faculty of Theology at the University of Opole, where he earned a licentiate in theology. In 2010, he began doctoral studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
After returning to Poland in 2016, he served in various ministries within the Wrocław-Gdańsk (later Wrocław-Koszalin) Eparchy of the UGCC. He undertook pastoral duties in the parishes of Biały Bór, Bielica, and Międzybórz. That same year, by decree of Pope Francis, he was appointed a “Missionary of Mercy,” a role he continues to fulfill as the eparchial spiritual father and confessor.
Since 2016, he has organized an annual eparchial pilgrimage to the icon of the Mother of God — Mother of the Wanderers — in Biały Bór. Over the years, he has also served as a member of the Presbyteral Council, the College of Eparchial Advisors, a censor for dogmatic and liturgical accuracy, and a delegate to various eparchial councils.
In 2024, he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Council for Family Ministry, and in 2025, became Chairman of the Commission for Evangelization.
