Feast of the Protection of the Mother of God in Brisbane
On Sunday, 19 October, the parish of the Protection of the Mother of God in Brisbane solemnly celebrated its patronal feast. A special blessing on this day was the Solemn Holy Communion received by two children from the parish community.

The Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was led by His Eminence Mykola Cardinal Bychok, Eparch of Melbourne, who had arrived in Brisbane a few days earlier on a pastoral visit. The bishop was concelebrated by Fr. Stefan Sapun, parish administrator, and Fr. Martin Arnold.
During his homily, Bishop Mykola drew the faithful’s attention to the depth of personal relationship with God, emphasising that Christian life is not only the fulfilment of duties or prescriptions, but also a living, personal dialogue with the Lord. This theme was particularly relevant, as on the prior to the feast, two children from the parish received the Sacrament of Confession, and on Sunday, during the Hierarchical Liturgy, solemnly received Holy Communion.
The bishop also invited those present to reflect on a simple but profound question: “What would Jesus do if He were in my place?” — and to seek the answer in their daily choices, actions, and prayer.
After the Liturgy, a festive meal was held, providing an opportunity for parishioners to speak with Bishop Mykola, thank him for his visit, and spend time together in a family spirit of unity and support.
