Head of the UGCC greeted the participants of the jubilee session of the general assembly of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on the 150th anniversary of the Shevchenko Scientific Society
The Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, sent a greeting letter to the participants of the jubilee session of the general meeting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, convened on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Shevchenko Scientific Society.

“Today, we thank God for blessing us with the courage and perseverance of the founding members of the National Scientific Society, who, regardless of difficult circumstances, bans, wars, and persecution, founded the Society and named it in honor of our Kobzar. From the first days of its existence until now, it has been of nation-building importance,” the Head of the UGCC emphasized.
“To explore, nurture, and popularize our language, culture, and true history — these were the tasks set by our giants, the members of the Shevchenko Scientific Society: Mykhailo Hrushevsky, Stepan Rudnytsky, Ivan Franko, Volodymyr Hnatiuk, Volodymyr and Oleksandr Barvinsky, and later thousands of other intellectuals in Ukraine, as well as in Western Europe and the United States, where the NTS was relocated due to the liquidation of the Bolsheviks,” the Patriarch wrote in his greeting letter.
The Father and Head of the UGCC emphasized the significance of the work of the SSS, which, according to him, cannot be overestimated today. He also noted that the anniversary session took place during the brutal all-out war that the Russian Federation waged on our lands.
He is convinced, though: “In this struggle, in which they attempt to destroy us again, the voice of the National Academy of Sciences should sound along with the roar of the defense guns of our Armed Forces. I hope you will always persevere in defending Ukraine in the scientific and cultural field. The idea of the ‘Ukrainian world,’ which the National Academy of Sciences has always advocated, should be developed in our homeland and presented to the world.”
“May the Lord God guide you in your meetings through the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary. May He grant you strength, inspiration, and decent successors for great achievements in the coming decades of the Society’s activity. May the words of Ivan Franko: ‘Everyone thinks that you are in charge of millions, that you have to give an account for the fate of millions,’ will be an encouragement and a kind of credit of trust from all of us,” His Beatitude Sviatoslav wished the NAS on the occasion of the anniversary.
On December 7, a memorial sign was unveiled and consecrated on Taras Shevchenko Boulevard in Ternopil on the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Taras Shevchenko Scientific Society. Metropolitan Vasyl Semeniuk and Bishop Theodore Martyniuk performed the rite of consecration.
