Head of the UGCC meets with the Commissioner for Persons Gone Missing under Special Circumstances
March 7, 2023, the Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, held a working meeting with Mr. Oleh Kotenko, the Commissioner for Persons Gone Missing under Special Circumstances.
During the meeting, the parties discussed and agreed on the possibilities of cooperation between this state body and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and analyzed the collaborative events already held, in particular the meeting of His Beatitude Sviatoslav with the families of prisoners of war and missing persons, which took place on January 30 at the Patriarchal House in Lviv.
The Commissioner for Persons Gone Missing under Special Circumstances spoke about the feasibility of establishing and operating his office, informed about the setting up of a network of regional coordinators of the Commissioner in all regions of Ukraine, and described the needs of his government for the most efficient work which could be reached with the help of the Church.
His Beatitude Sviatoslav informed the Commissioner for Persons Gone Missing under Special Circumstances about the dynamic pastoral and humanitarian activities of our Church concerning this category of victims of hostile aggression and spoke about the latest resolutions of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC in Ukraine, which relate to the critical problem of healing the wounds of war.
The parties agreed on several joint activities to be implemented shortly and designated the persons responsible for communication and implementation.
The meeting was also attended by Anastasia Holishevska, Commissioner for Persons Gone Missing under Special Circumstances coordinator, and archpriest Oleksa Petriv, head of the Department of External Relations of the UGCC in Ukraine.
