Head of the UGCC on the 361 st day of the war: “It is imperative to help young people choose the profession the Lord calls them to”

How many young people graduate from higher education institutions in a specialty that they then quit, neglect, and work in a completely different field? Therefore, it is imperative to help young people choose the profession the Lord calls them to. His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, said this in his daily address on the 361 st day of the great, brutal, full-scale war that the Russian occupier and aggressor brought to our land.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav drew attention to the fact that today is Meatfare Sunday. God tells us: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for me.” “This Sunday in our Church,” says the Primate, “is the Day of Social Service. We ask all our faithful to come to the churches and make a donation so that we can serve the neediest. With the help of prayer and good deeds, we can save human life today. Social service is a continuation of worship outside the walls of churches.”

Today, the spiritual leader reflected on a vocation to the professional field of human activity.

According to him, our Kyiv Church has long been a mother and teacher of its people, creating environments of education and science. Specifically, in modern times, it has helped its faithful to acquire professional knowledge and skills and supported various professional schools.

“If we, as professionals, do not rise every day,” he believes, “we fall. If we do not develop, we begin to degrade. No matter what type of activity a person is engaged in, they should always improve in things they do.”

Reflecting on a future profession, His Beatitude Sviatoslav emphasized that each person must find and discover a special gift of God that calls them to this particular activity. For modern Ukrainian society, this problem is highly relevant because a significant part of young people, unfortunately, acquire a profession not by vocation but because of future enrichment or the popularity of a particular type of activity, and then feel unhappy and dissatisfied with what they do.

According to His Beatitude Sviatoslav, everyone must understand that when choosing a specialty, one should think not so much about one’s enrichment but about bringing more good things to another person to serve one’s people, the Motherland.

“Our profession is just a means, a tool to serve,” the spiritual leader summarized.
