Head of UGCC Extends Gratitude to Bishop Vasyl Losten for the Patriarchal Cathedral Construction Support Over Many Years
As part of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the consecration of the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the UGCC, awarded Bishop Vasyl Losten with a substantial diploma for his many years of support in the construction of the main church of the UGCC.

“We know that the Lord God erects churches, but blessed are those who cooperate with Him in this work that leads a person to salvation,” the letter of commendation reads.
The Head of the UGCC wished Bishop Vasyl that the Lord would repay him a hundredfold for everything he did for the glory of God and the good of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, “which has returned to its native hills of Dnipro and is visibly present through its magnificent cathedral in the capital of Ukraine.”
In his letter, His Beatitude Sviatoslav emphasized that the Patriarchal Cathedral in Kyiv serves as a “cathedral of unity” and “the heart of our Church, which pulsates, suffers pain and rejoices in the joys of its sons and daughters,” for the faithful of the UGCC worldwide, whether in Ukraine or the settlements.
According to the Head of the Church, the temple has endured hard times, which it withstands with honor. These included the Revolution of Dignity, during which the Patriarchal Cathedral became a refuge for its participants, the Covid-19 pandemic, during which Zhyve TV broadcast live services for people around the world who wanted to pray, and a full-scale war, during which the cathedral became a haven for residents of the capital from enemy missiles and bombs.
“Today we can bravely say, echoing our glorious poet Taras Shevchenko, that we consecrated it ‘to the living, the dead, and yet unborn’ as a site of great hope that comes from the risen Christ,” His Beatitude Sviatoslav emphasized.
The Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv was consecrated on August 18, 2013. During 2023–2024, the UGCC celebrates the 10th anniversary of its consecration.
