Head of UGCC meets with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine
On July 4, 2023, at the residence of the Father and Head of the UGCC in Kyiv, His Beatitude Sviatoslav met with Mr. Andriy Melnyk, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, at the latter’s request.
The participants discussed various issues and challenges facing the Church and the Ukrainian state in international relations amid the war.
His Beatitude Sviatoslav shared with Mr. Andriy the latest initiatives of the Church and its various activities, including relations with the Apostolic See, European countries, and Latin America, as well as the life of the UGCC and the Ukrainian community in Brazil and Argentina. The meeting participants discussed the peculiarities of Latin American culture, the current political situation in these countries, and their response to Russian aggression against Ukraine.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine accentuated the vital role of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in consolidating the global Ukrainian community and thanked the Church for its engagement in diplomatic relations with various international partners of Ukraine. According to him, the UGCC has always been the voice of the Ukrainian people, helping the international community to be cognizant of the tragedy that the war is causing to our people.
