His Beatitude Sviatoslav speaks about the reaction of the authorities to the intention of the UGCC to pray in the Pochayiv Lavra
The state government reacted very diplomatically to the discretion of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church to serve in the Pochayiv Lavra, said His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Father and Head of the UGCC, on the air of the United News telethon.
“The reaction of the authorities was very diplomatic. Everyone listened attentively, but there has been no response so far,” said the Primate.
“It is very important that the authorities recognize Pochayiv Lavra is historically related to our church,” the patriarch emphasized. “The miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary of Pochayiv was crowned with papal crowns. And this year marks the anniversary of this coronation. Therefore, Greek Catholics should also have their place there along with their Orthodox brothers.”
Earlier, His Beatitude Sviatoslav stated that the UGCC does not claim the property of the Pochayiv Lavra but would like to be able to pray there, as the Pochayiv Lavra has a historical bond with the UGCC.
