Hospital in Kolomyia district has new medical chaplain
On June 12, the chaplaincy service for patients and medical staff was renewed at St. Panteleimon’s Chapel. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated on this occasion.
It was presided over by Fr. Yuriy Savchuk, chairman of the Commission on Health Care Pastoral Care of the Kolomyia Eparchy of the UGCC. He was concelebrated by a parish priest, Fr. Zakhariy Mykhasiuta from Zabolotov village, and from now on a medical chaplain, Fr. Serhiy Radchenko.
For many, medical chaplaincy is a new, and in fact a somewhat forgotten page in the history of the Church’s social ministry.
A medical chaplain is a priest who, in addition to theological education, has a specialized one. It means that a pastor with a specific education must also acquire additional knowledge to serve as a medical chaplain with dignity.
Medical chaplaincy is primarily tied around the idea of ministering to a sick person. The concept of chaplaincy is to go beyond the standard service to the religious community and enter into certain specifics of life circumstances.
