“I am asking you to listen to the voice of your Mother-Church” — His Beatitude Sviatoslav to the faithful over the calendar reform
May this reform be the light of a promising future, wished the Head and Father of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, in his address in live broadcast regarding the calendar reform.
The Patriarch thanked all the faithful of the UGCC, cultural, academic, and social leaders who sent him letters over the past six months. “We heard you. Your wise thoughts and advice were essential guides for us. For us, that is, for our episcopate, the Synod of Bishops of our Church,” he said.
“I want to address our faithful, especially those who may be a little scared today because they do not feel very confident. Do not be afraid of change! We want our Ukraine to be different. We declare that it must become better than it was before the war. It means that we must change first. So let us change! Do not be afraid to become different, better,” said His Beatitude Sviatoslav.
“Dear fathers, today a great burden falls on your shoulders, a great duty to implement the decisions of your bishops. Since it is you, who must teach our people to celebrate the holidays in a new way, it is you who must do everything to ensure that not a single great holiday, including those we call the Twelfth (great feasts), fades with the change of the calendar,” the Primate addressed the priests. He then thanked the monastics for their unanimity support for the changes.
The Hierarch asked the administrative structures of the Patriarchal Curia, the Liturgical and Catechetical Commissions, to work on making people understand the value of liturgical reform.
