January 18, the Patriarchal Cathedral Hosts an Ecumenical Prayer Service for Christian Unity
“Love the Lord your God… and your neighbor as yourself” (Luke 10:27) — this is the theme of this year’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. The materials for the ecumenical prayers in 2024 have traditionally been prepared by the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and the World Council of Churches together with the Christians of Burkina Faso, supported by the local Chemin Neuf Community (CCN).
An interfaith prayer service organized by the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church will be held on Thursday, January 18, at 6:00 PM in the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ (5 Mykilsko-Slobidska St., Livoberezhna Metro Station). The prayer will be broadcast live by Zhyve Television with the possibility for everyone to participate.
The prayer will be led by Bishop Yosyf Milian, Bishop of the Kyiv Archeparchy of the UGCC, in concelebration with bishops and clergy of the Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant Churches.
In an interview with the Information Department of the UGCC, the head of the UGCC Commission on Interfaith and Interreligious Relations, Fr. Ihor Shaban, noted that “this event is another opportunity for Christians to be closer to each other, and thus to be closer to Jesus Christ, who is the heart and foundation of the one Church. This opinion of contemporary Christians in Burkina Faso prompts the churches to come closer together and to bear witness together: unity, mutual respect, and cooperation. In the prepared texts, the main focus is centered around love between Christians and the search for justice, because unity is impossible without justice, which is a pressing issue for Ukraine, which seeks justice and fights for a just peace.”
