Metropolitan Borys Gudziak and Bishop Paul Chomnycky Meet with the President of Ukraine in New York
On September 24, Metropolitan Borys Gudziak of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the United States and Bishop Paul Chomnycky of the Eparchy of Stamford, together with representatives and leaders of the Ukrainian community, met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska in New York.
During the meeting, they discussed Ukraine’s diplomatic efforts and joint efforts for peace, cooperation with U. S. President Donald Trump and his team, as well as the main challenges and tasks facing Ukraine. Volodymyr Zelenskyy identified the following as priorities: ending the war, preserving Ukraine, the Ukrainian nation, and its historical and cultural heritage.
Addressing those present, Metropolitan Borys Gudziak shared his experiences from his recent two-month stay in Ukraine and his many encounters with people in different parts of the country. He spoke about the resilience and resolve of the Ukrainians he met and spoke with during his trip.
Metropolitan Borys emphasized that among the hundreds of people he spoke with during his stay in Ukraine, not a single one said that Ukraine should surrender. Those present heard firsthand accounts of the experiences, sentiments, and resolve of people currently living under wartime conditions in Ukraine.
The participants also discussed the resilience of the Ukrainian people and the importance of continuing to support Ukraine and Ukrainians during this critical time.
At the end of the meeting, the President of Ukraine presented state awards to participants who, through their work and support, are contributing to the strengthening of Ukraine.
“Thank you to each and every one of you who is helping, who is spreading the truth about our struggle, who is supporting our people, and who is doing everything possible to ensure that Ukraine is heard and understood around the world. We appreciate all your help,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on his Facebook page.
