Monastery of St. Joseph Consecrated in Portugal

On March 17, with the blessing of Bishop Stepan Sus, head of the UGCC’s Pastoral Migration Department, the Basilian Monastery was consecrated by Bishop Irynej Bilyk, who serves as a canon at the Pontifical Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.

The Divine Liturgy in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lisbon was presided over by Bishop Irynej Bilyk, O. S. B. M., who is Canon of the Pontifical Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. Fr. Robert Lyseiko, Archimandrite of the Basilian Order and superior of St. Joseph’s Monastery, Fr. Matey Dziurban, also concelebrated.

After the Liturgy in Lisbon, Bishop Irynej consecrated the Basilian Monastery of St. Joseph in Santa Iria de Azoia. Along with the bishop, the consecration was attended by the Basilian Archimandrite Fr. Robert Lyseiko, the delegate of the Archimandrite Fr. Silvio Litvinchuk, the superior of St. Joseph’s Monastery Fr. Matey Dzurban, Fr. Mykola Yarema, Fr. Venedykt Derkach, Fr. Ilya Figol, Fr. Gabriel Tymchyk and Deacon Petro Tokach.

In his address, Bishop Irynej Bilyk conveyed his wish to nurture and develop monastic life in Portugal.
