Parents of Fallen Soldiers Climb Mount Makivka
On June 2, to mark Mother’s Day and the Day of Heroes of Ukraine, fathers and mothers of fallen soldiers climbed one of the summits of the Ukrainian Carpathians, Mt. Makivka. This is the fourth year in a row that the Department of Military Chaplaincy of the Patriarchal Curia of the UGCC has organized such events.
The event was attended by mothers and fathers of fallen soldiers from different regions of Ukraine. Spiritual and psychological support for the group was provided by military chaplain Fr. Rostyslav Vysochan.
At the Memorial Military Cemetery of the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen on the summit of Makivka, the resilient parents, together with Fr. Rostyslav, prayed a memorial service for all the fallen Heroes of Ukraine and thanked God for making this important trip possible, allowing them to feel and experience the presence of their sons once again.
“Your children, whom you have raised to be true warriors, are descendants of the heroes of past generations whose memory we honor on this mountain. They continued the glorious feat in the brave struggle against the constant enemy of the Ukrainian people,” Fr. Rostyslav addressed the participants of the ascent.
As part of the meeting, a master class in pottery and clay modeling was held for the families. The program also included communal Divine Liturgies, memorial services, recreational activities, and friendly conversations.
The parents of the Heroes expressed their gratitude to the organizers of the event and to each other for the experience and agreed to create a tradition of climbing new heights in the future.
