Patriarchal Cathedral blesses Paschal food for defending forces
On Holy Thursday, in the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv, the Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, blessed Easter bread for Ukrainian soldiers who are defending our homeland. The Easter baskets from the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church will go to the frontline thanks to the initiative and partnership of the UGCC Military Chaplaincy Department and the Patriarchal Foundation Wise Cause.
Traditionally, every year chaplains make Easter trips to the front to congratulate our defenders on the great bright holiday of the Resurrection of the Lord. This year, the UGCC is sending seven coordinated groups to the front line.
“This year, a collaboration between the Department of Military Chaplaincy of the Patriarchal Curia and the Military Chaplaincy Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is especially fruitful, which operates today as a professional military chaplaincy. We are also grateful for the cooperation of the Patriarchal Foundation Wise Cause, which joined in preparing these Easter gifts for our defenders,” said Fr. Rostyslav Vysochan, the head of the Section for Chaplaincy in the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the Department of Military Chaplaincy of the Patriarchal Curia of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
Andriy Zelinsky, deputy head of the UGCC Military Chaplaincy Department, emphasized that it is necessary to constantly remember the brave sons and daughters of Ukraine: “This small symbol of the Easter holiday is a symbol of the Resurrection of Christ, a symbol of the final victory of life over death, good over evil, light over darkness. This Easter bread is the blessing of our Church to every Ukrainian soldier, every defender who is holding the line for Ukraine today.”
