Prayer in Ukrainian for Ukraine’s victory in the Cave of Apocalypse on Pátmos
The bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church made a pilgrimage to the island of Pátmos (Greece), where the Apostle John the Theologian received the Revelation, which became the last book of the New Testament. In the Cave of the Apocalypse, the Ukrainian bishops prayed the Akathist to St. John the Theologian and “Lord, Great and Almighty One” for Ukraine’s victory and a just peace.
A pilgrimage to the Cave of the Apocalypse on Pátmos was made by: Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Metropolitan Volodymyr Viytyshyn, Bishop Josaphat Moshchych, Bishop Ivan Kulyk, Bishop Stepan Sus, Bishop Josaphat Hovera, Bishop Mykola Semenyshyn, Bishop Andriy Khimyak, as well as Fr. Nikanor Loik, Fr. Oleh Oleksa and Fr. Ihor Posolenyk.
The island of Pátmos is reputed to have been the site of the imprisonment of the apostle John the Theologian around 95 AD under Emperor Domitian. In the cave, known today as the Cave of the Apocalypse, the evangelist had a vision included in the Bible as the last book of the New Testament, the Book of Revelation (Apocalypse). It was written down by the deacon Prochorus.
As we reported, from September 19 to 21, the bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church participated in the Meeting of Eastern Catholic Bishops of Europe in Greece, which took place near Athens. During their visit to Greece, the bishops also took part in the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Apostolic Exarchate in Greece and the 25th anniversary of the Ukrainian parish in Athens.
