Rome Honors the 20th Anniversary of the Death of Bishop Ivan Choma
In Rome, on February 3, at the Patriarchal Procathedral of Santa Sofia, a memorial service was held to mark the 20th anniversary of the passing of Bishop Ivan Choma.
This was reported by the press service of the Patriarchal Procathedral of Santa Sofia.
The funeral Divine Liturgy was led by the rector of the cathedral, Fr. Marko-Yaroslav Semehen. In his sermon, he reflected on the bishop’s life, emphasizing his sacrificial service to the Church, his devotion to his calling, and his spiritual steadfastness in the face of persecution and forced emigration.
After the Liturgy, the faithful descended to the crypt of the cathedral, where Bishop Ivan is buried, and a memorial service for the repose of his soul was held.
The bishop’s niece, Ms. Marta Choma, took part in the service. She shared family memories of the difficult trials that accompanied the bishop’s life and recalled his plea to keep praying for him as a spiritual testament.
