“The Church longs to see us change along with the change of the calendar”: Head of the UGCC
The renewal of the church calendar is prompted by the willingness to be responsible for the Christian vocation and should not become just a mechanical shift of dates. This is stated in the Pastoral Epistles of His Beatitude Sviatoslav to the faithful of the UGCC on the renewal of the church calendar.
“The Church wants us to change along with the change of the calendar,” the Head of the UGCC emphasizes in his message, “Christ’s continuous call to repentance — to rethink our whole life —
is more pressing now than ever.”
The Primate urges us not to be afraid of perfecting ourselves, especially when it comes to growing in faith. In this way, we will be able to become true Christians whose vocation is to translate their faith into the present each time better.
“The church is called to be a living community that introduces the grace of the Holy Spirit into all dimensions of human existence. It encourages its children to take the same creative and responsible approach,” the document says.
“There is no use looking back at stagnant stereotypes and fears: we must move forward boldly toward what opens up the prospect of more vigorous spiritual growth and future eternal life,” the message’s author inspires.
The day before the UGCC in Ukraine implemented a calendar reform on September 1, 2023, His Beatitude Sviatoslav had addressed the faithful with Pastoral Epistles.
