The collaborative work on the book remained unfinished: UGCC Head expresses condolences on the death of Ihor Kozlovsky
The Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, expressed his condolences to the family of Mr. Ihor Kozlovsky, who fell asleep in God on September 6, 2023, at the age of 70. The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church was directly involved in his release from the captivity of the so-called DNR, where the famous Ukrainian religious scholar was held for about two years.
“It is with great sadness that I received the news that Mr. Igor Kozlovsky, of blessed memory, has departed to be with our Lord in eternal reward. His heart, which was filled with a profound love for his homeland, stopped last night, unable to bear the hardships that came his way, especially in these difficult months of the war,” the Head of the UGCC wrote in a letter of condolence, assuring of prayer for the soul of the deceased.
According to His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Mr. Ihor was not only a scholar, writer, public figure, and prisoner of the torture chambers of the so-called DNR but also an incredibly bright person after communicating with whom you could find comfort in the heart and soul.
“I met with him during various events, but the most memorable was the meeting after his return from two years of captivity, where he suffered abuse as a prisoner of conscience for his pro-Ukrainian beliefs. We were directly involved in the process of his liberation. I was looking at a man who was not broken by his ordeal, who carried no shadow of anger or despair in his face. After this meeting, we began to write a book together about the importance of spiritual values during the war. Unfortunately, this important work remained unfinished…” the letter reads.
Mr. Kozlovsky, according to the Primate, has always been faithful to his credo of bringing light and peace to this world of darkness. He was a prominent religious scholar who studied man’s search for the eternal God.
“We believe that today this knowledge has been accomplished — someone who has read all his life about the manifestations of God in different religions has already seen Him with his own eyes, and it cannot be described in scientific language,” said the Head of the UGCC and added: “We thank God for the gift of this man’s life. Ukraine is proud of its faithful son.”
