On June 28, with the blessing of Bishop Josaphat Moshchych of Chernivtsi, three parish Caritas were established in the Chernivtsi diocese: Novodnistrovsk, Khotyn, and Hlyboka.

Three parish Caritas established in the Chernivtsi Eparchy

All of them emerged from social ministry in parishes, which is one of the church’s priorities, and are the result of the experience, sustainability, and perseverance in this movement and the desire to serve as many people as possible.

According to Caritas Chernivtsi, the parishes that have agreed to establish local Caritas today have demonstrated, first of all, their willingness to see the problem and then explore ways to solve it with the people and resources they have, to find and leverage other resources, to write grant proposals, and to raise funds.

Any ministry begins with small deeds. Each of these three parishes of the UGCC contributed a lot in this respect: extensive work with children and adolescents in the parish in Novodnistrovsk (Fr. Andriy Kadlubitsky), multiple charity fairs organized by parish volunteers in Hlyboka (Fr. Yuriy Sakharchuk), and devoting work for the benefit of others in Khotyn (Fr. Yuriy Perkhun).

The results of such actions demonstrate the readiness of these parish communities to carry out social service systematically and efficiently, to share experiences, help others, and learn. From then on, the charitable organizations Caritas Hlyboka, Caritas Transfiguration of the Lord Khotyn, and Caritas Novodnistrovsk will be a part of the Caritas Ukraine network. The registration and active work of Caritas charitable foundations will also contribute to the growth and development of parishes.
