Two UGCC Metropolitans Honored with High State Decorations
On August 23, 2025, the President of Ukraine signed Decree No. 617/2025 “On Awarding State Awards of Ukraine.” The document states that Volodymyr Zelensky awarded two metropolitans of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church with high state awards: Bishop Borys Gudziak, Archbishop and Metropolitan of Philadelphia, with the Order of Merit I Class, and Archbishop Volodymyr Kovbych, Archbishop and Metropolitan of Curitiba, with the Order of Merit III Class.
According to this decree, Metropolitans Borys and Volodymyr were commended for their significant personal contributions to strengthening intergovernmental cooperation, upholding the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, charitable activities, and promoting the Ukrainian state worldwide.
