UGCC Permanent Synod Bishops Meet with Ukraine’s National Security Council Secretary
On December 11, the bishops of the Permanent Synod of the UGCC met with the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. The meeting was part of the Synod’s regular session, currently being held in Kyiv.
The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Mr. Oleksandr Lytvynenko, greeted the bishops and noted that this meeting occurs within the context of the implementation of the Presidential Plan for Internal Resilience of Ukraine, specifically the development of cooperation between the state and the Church.
After welcoming the participants, His Beatitude Sviatoslav introduced all the members of the Permanent Synod and briefed the NSDC Secretary on the role of the Synod in the Church’s leadership. The Head of the UGCC assured that all the current activities of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the public sphere are aimed at strengthening the church-state partnership to increase the common good of our people and to win the Russian war against Ukraine.
Then Metropolitan Borys Gudziak, Most Rev. Bryan Bayda, and Most Rev. Volodymyr Yushchak described the situation, achievements, and challenges of Ukrainian communities in the countries of their pastoral ministry — the United States, Canada, and Poland. The bishops received concrete proposals and assurances of cooperation from the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council aimed at improving the situation of Ukrainians abroad, regardless of the time and conditions of their emigration.
The meeting was held in a formal yet cordial atmosphere. In conclusion, His Beatitude Sviatoslav handed over to the NSDC Secretary a number of recent scientific and memorable publications of the UGCC.
