UGCC priest dedicates victory at powerlifting championship to Dmytro Kotsiubaylo
On March 18, the Holy Dormition Univ Lavra abbot, Hieromonk Makariy Dutka, won the Kyiv Powerlifting Championship, which he dedicated to the Hero of Ukraine, Dmytro Kotsiubaylo.
Fr. Makariy wrote on his Facebook page.
The abbot of the Holy Dormition Univ Lavra notes that even during Lent, one can show good results in sports competitions without consuming meat and dairy products.
“My result in the weightlifting reached the desired 205 kg with my weight of 74 kg,” says Hieromonk Makariy.
According to Fr. Makariy, this victory is precious because it was achieved thanks to intense training and efforts, particularly of coach Pavlo Zinko, who came to the Univ Lavra twice a week to train the athlete personally.
The hieromonk dedicated his victory to the Hero of Ukraine, Dmytro Kotsiubaylo. He said that the heroic death of a seemingly ordinary battalion commander had turned into a national tragedy: “Dear son of Ukraine, Dmytro, we will bring more than one victory to the altar of the Ukrainian nation to show you and all those who defend our land that your sacrifice was not in vain, that it has sense. We will not betray your memory! Heroes do not die when they are remembered. And only when we appreciate your heroic deeds will we become a victorious nation.”
“When 205 kilograms were over my head, I asked: ‘Warrior, hero Dmytro, help me because this victory is for you.’ What happened next was this: the bar went down and up. A kind of thing…”, Fr. Makariy Dutka wrote on his Facebook page.
