Ukrainian youth wearing clothes with portraits of Ukrainian children killed by Russia join the Way of the Cross with the Pope
Ukrainian youth at the World Youth Day in Lisbon came to the Way of the Cross, which took place on August 4 in the evening with the participation of Pope Francis, wearing T-shirts with portraits of children who died in Ukraine at the hands of the Russian aggressor.
The T-shirts portray the faces of children who died in a shell attack, terrorist attack, or under the rubble of a destroyed house. Among them are Artem, who died at one year and seven months, from Kryvyi Rih, 8-year-old Polina, who was killed in Mariupol, and 15-year-old Ivan from Kyiv.
“This silent campaign on World Youth Day is symbolic because these children will never utter their words. These children will never be young again. During the Way of the Cross, we want to unite the wounds of our people, our wounds, with the wounds of Christ. Resurrection comes through suffering and death. We have come here to witness the suffering of Christ, who suffers with all of Ukraine. And to meet the resurrected Christ so that Ukraine may be resurrected,” said Father Roman Demush, co-initiator of the campaign, a deputy head of the UGCC Youth Commission.
