Ukrainian Catholic youth from the parish of Saints Volodymyr and Olha in Winnipeg, Canada, recreated a special Christmas atmosphere by preparing and performing a Ukrainian-language nativity play. For the past three years, this group of young people has aimed to unite Ukrainians from two continents through this tradition.

The press service of the Winnipeg Archeparchy of the UGCC reported the event.

This year’s nativity play was unique, as it brought together young people with diverse life experiences. Those born and raised in Canada joined efforts with those forced to flee Ukraine due to the war. Through their collaboration, Ukrainian Catholic youth united around shared traditions and values.

The festive event took place at the parish of Saints Volodymyr and Olha in Winnipeg.

As noted in the press release, this parish holds special significance for the Ukrainian community in Winnipeg. It was established 125 years ago as the first Ukrainian Greek Catholic parish in Canada. The Cathedral of Saints Volodymyr and Olha, built and opened in 1951 with the support of war refugees, continues to play a vital role. Today, the descendants of those early refugees provide comfort and support to the newest wave of Ukrainians fleeing the ongoing war.

The parish has thus become a symbol of hope, reflecting the mission of the Catholic Church as it prepares for the 2025 Jubilee.
