Victims of Babyn Yar Commemorated in Kyiv
On September 29, on the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Babyn Yar Tragedy, a communal interreligious prayer of remembrance was held at the Babyn Yar National Historical Memorial Reserve in Kyiv.
The interreligious prayer for the victims of Babyn Yar has been held for the third year now. It was organized by the Ukrainian World Congress together with the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance and the Babyn Yar National Historical Memorial Reserve.
The joint prayer was attended by religious leaders, including Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Reuven Asman, Archbishop Agapit (Humeniuk) of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Bishop Vitaliy Kryvytskyi of the Kyiv-Zhytomyr Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine, Bishop Markos Ohanesyan of the Ukrainian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, and Mitred Archpriest Oleksa Petriv of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Head of the Department of External Relations of the UGCC in Ukraine. Additionally, representatives from the government and the public were present at the event.
Each of the representatives of churches and religious organizations of Ukraine said a prayer. Afterward, all the participants honored the memory of the victims of Babyn Yar with a minute of silence and laid symbolic stones to the Menorah monument according to Jewish tradition and lit candles.
