On August 1, 110 years ago, Lesya Ukrainka, a great daughter of Ukraine who was raised in blue-eyed Volyn, passed away. Events to honor her memory were held in the center of Kovel, and on behalf of the entire parish of the Holy Martyr Vasyl Velychkovsky, the rector, Father Ivan Dutka, laid a bouquet at the poetess’s monument.
It is worth noting that Blessed Vasyl Velychkovsky once had a significant role in preserving Lesia Ukrainka’s estate in the village of Kolodyazhne near Kovel, and the poetess’s brother Mykola, along with his son Yuriy, was an activist of the Greek Catholic parish of St. Nicholas, established in this village.
