On the Feast of the Encounter of our Lord God and Saviour Jesus Christ, which the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church traditionally celebrates as the Day of Consecrated Persons, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the UGCC, addressed all monks and nuns of the UGCC with a message of congratulations.

“You are the beacons of the Church, shining forth Christ as the supreme meaning of human life,” says the Head of the UGCC to consecrated persons

The Primate emphasized the special significance of this feast for those who have chosen a life devoted to God: “The Feast of the Encounter is a day of special prayer and attention to our consecrated persons, to those who live a monastic life. They are the beacons of the Church in our time, showing that Christ is the ultimate meaning of human life.”

The Head of the Church expressed his deep gratitude to the reverend sisters and brothers for their service and witness: “Dear sisters and brothers, we thank you today for your service and witness.”

Recalling the figure of the righteous prophetess Anna and the words of St. Augustine, His Beatitude Sviatoslav emphasized that the true meaning of prayer and fasting is revealed in Christ alone: “To turn away from You, Jesus, means to perish, and to turn to You means to resurrect” (St. Augustine, Soliloquia, 1,3).

On the eve of the Feast of the Encounter of the Lord, the XI All-Ukrainian Pilgrimage of the Monasticism of the UGCC took place, which brought together hundreds of monks and nuns.
