Formation Program in Theology and Evangelization Officially Launched
On September 19, the online English-language Formation Program in Theology and Evangelization was officially launched. The program is designed to help the faithful deepen their knowledge of the faith and grow in their understanding of their vocation and mission in the Church.
At the beginning of the meeting, Fr. Mykola Dziurakh, Co-Director of the Religious Education Ministry of the Philadelphia Archeparchy, welcomed the participants and invited Metropolitan-designate Michael Kwiatkowski, Chairman of the Patriarchal Catechetical Commission of the UGCC, to offer a word of greeting. Archbishop-designate Michael warmly welcomed all the participants, thanked them for their desire to deepen their faith and grow in their knowledge of the Church’s teaching, and encouraged them to make the most of this opportunity for spiritual and theological formation.
The introductory lecture on the vocation and mission of the faithful was delivered by Metropolitan Archbishop Borys Gudziak. In his lecture, he especially emphasized the importance of the laity recognizing their identity as those who are the Church, and stressed that their vocation as beloved children of God flows from the Mystery of Baptism: “The renewal of the theology of the laity inaugurated by the Second Vatican Council is not fundamentally a matter of transferring more tasks from clergy to laypeople. It is, above all, a rediscovery of the dignity that flows from Baptism and of the missionary responsibility of the entire People of God.” Following the lecture, participants had the opportunity to ask questions and take part in the discussion.
The Formation Program in Theology and Evangelization is intended to provide the faithful with ongoing spiritual and theological formation. Its purpose is to equip and inspire conscious and committed faithful who seek a deeper knowledge of their faith, as well as to provide ongoing formation for catechists and parish leaders. The program is organized by the Patriarchal Catechetical Commission of the UGCC in cooperation with the Catechetical-Pedagogical Institute of the Ukrainian Catholic University, the Religious Education Ministry of the Philadelphia Archeparchy, and the community of catechists in Canada.
