From the Head of the UGCC on the 322 nd day of the war: “Our task is to say ‘no’ to cruel, blind absurdity and defend human life and dignity”
The Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, said in his daily address on the 32 nd day of the war.
Being in the days after the Nativity of Christ, we liturgically honor the memory of the holy innocents killed for Christ in Bethlehem. “Why do the innocent suffer? His Beatitude Sviatoslav asked. — This question remains a mystery even for theology. The blood of innocent children defies human logic. We see that war is the most ludicrous thing and a senseless event that we cannot rationally explain. Why did the blood of innocent children flow in Bethlehem, or did it flow in Ukraine? We ask the Lord God about this once again. And perhaps here we can find some light of understanding through our faith in the incarnate Christ born among us.”
The Patriarch compared today’s Ukraine to Bethlehem, which cries for killed children, and wished that the time of Christmas would become an exceptional spiritual support, comfort, and consolation for mothers who lost their children during this sacrilegious and godless war.
