Head of the UGCC in the 160th Week of War: Following Shevchenko’s Voice — Let Us March Forward!
Our destiny may be difficult, hard, and sometimes bloody. But it leads us forward, to glory, in which God’s power will be glorified through Ukraine throughout the world. His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, said this on the 160th week of the full-scale war in Ukraine.

The Primate noted that in the first week of Lent, the Russians are constantly attacking the vital infrastructure of our settlements.
“Once again, Kyiv’s voice echoes to the world: Ukraine stands firm. We invite all those who wonder how Ukraine is living today to come to our capital. Let everyone see and hear: Ukraine stands, Ukraine fights, Ukraine prays!” His Beatitude Sviatoslav emphasized.
According to him, this week Ukraine remained in the world’s headlines. Amid the backdrop of various political, international, diplomatic, and military events, many experts argue that the world order that was built by humanity as a security system after World War II has all but collapsed.
He believes that the new EU architecture, the security architecture of Europe, is impossible without Ukraine. However, it is not merely about military security, but also about the very foundations of European civilization, deep values, human relations, and international relations, without which not only Europe, Ukraine, but the entire world cannot envision a future.
“Today, the whole world is watching with awe and admiration the courage and heroism of the Ukrainian people, their love for their homeland, their ability not only to defend their dignity but also to defend the foundations of humanity. And those who look at the sacrificial love of Ukrainians are appaled by the imposed ephemeral peace or obscure agreements that someone wants to conclude at the expense of Ukrainian blood.”

Video-message of the Head of the UGCC on the 160th Week of Full-Scale War, March 9, 2025
This year, on the first Sunday of Lent, we honor the birthday of Taras Shevchenko. His Beatitude quoted the relevant words of our prophet:
We’ve walked the straight path, you and I,
We have not cheated, compromised
Or lived the very slightest lie.
So let’s march on, dear fate of mine!
My humble, truthful, faithful friend!
Keep marching on: there glory lies;
March forward — that’s my testament.
“Following the voice of our Taras, let’s march forward!” the spiritual leader of Ukrainians encouraged.
