Head of the UGCC in the 180th Week of War: The Passing of Law 12414 Stirs the Consciences of Christians and Responsible Citizens
The fight against corruption is our European choice, the demand of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, Maidan, and the Revolution of Dignity, which laid the moral foundations for the development of the modern Ukrainian state. This was stated by His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, in his traditional address on the 180th week of the full-scale war waged by Russian criminals against the peaceful Ukrainian land.

The Primate expressed sadness over the recent adoption of Law 12414, which limits—or possibly even abolishes—the independence of institutions tasked with fighting corruption.
“Corruption,” he emphasized, “is a crime against Ukraine, a moral sabotage of our state, its defense capabilities, and the resilience of its people. This decision has stirred the consciences of Christians and responsible citizens. It has created dangerous social tensions and undermined the trust of the people in the government and of international partners in Ukraine.”
His Beatitude Sviatoslav, on behalf of the Church, called on both society and statesmen to engage in dialogue, mutual listening, and cooperation: “We have no right to allow internal confrontation. We cannot give the enemy a chance to undermine the defense of our homeland from within.”

The Head of the Church thanked the young people who took responsibility for the moral revival of Ukraine, who were the first to rise up against the threat of dismantling anti-corruption mechanisms. At the same time, he called on everyone to engage in dialogue, remain calm, and seek peace—so that our unguarded actions do not undermine Ukraine’s ability to defend itself.
