On April 8, on Lazarus Saturday, His Beatitude Sviatoslav attended the Youth Day of the Kyiv Archeparchy at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ of the UGCC. The Head of the UGCC had the opportunity to communicate with Ukrainian youth and address them with instructions and words of gratitude because the heaviest burden of the war fell on their shoulders.

First, His Beatitude Sviatoslav explained why Palm Sunday is a special day of attention to young people and a day of prayer for them in the Church.

“It was the youth who said to Jesus Christ on Palm Sunday: ‘You are the Savior, save us. Hosanna in the highest.’ The youth realized we do not believe in any doctrine because Christianity is not an idea. Christianity is a relationship with a Person, with Jesus Christ,” said the Patriarch.

The Head of the UGCC emphasized that today the voice of our youth is vital everywhere: in the country, the Church, and throughout the world. The participation of Christian youth in the life of the more diverse community of the Church, which goes beyond our nation, is significant.

Notably, the Father and Head of the Church recalled that even at the Continental Assembly of the Synod on Synodality, which took place in February, the delegates from the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church were the youngest of all.

“We could see and hear how important it is for those representatives of the Churches of Europe to see young faces from Ukraine, to hear what Ukrainian youth wants, what they are fighting for, what they dream about, what Ukrainian youth are giving their lives for,” His Beatitude Sviatoslav emphasized.

“Things you can do with your word, your testimony, living out your dreams, will not be done by the Ukrainian government, diplomacy, or other mechanisms of international presence. Without you, the voice of Ukraine during the war will be incomplete,” His Beatitude Sviatoslav emphasized.

At the end of the meeting, the guests could personally ask the patriarch questions on topics of interest. His Beatitude Sviatoslav shared his life experience and valuable advice and expressed his gratitude and admiration to the youth.
