It is not enough to discuss the end of the war by narrowing the issue down to territories, their exchange, or the recognition of temporarily occupied lands. This was stated by His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, in his traditional video address during the 183 rd week of Russia’s large-scale war against Ukraine.

The Primate noted that this week will be remembered, both in Ukraine and internationally for the summit at the highest level between the leaders of the United States and Russia, which took place on August 15 in Alaska.

The Head of the Church noted that even during these international efforts, at the moment of the meeting at the highest level, the Russians continued killing people in Ukraine.

“Observing the negotiations at the highest global level, we hope that they will yield results. At the same time, we feel that this is only the beginning—the beginning of a serious search for a way to stop this war,” said the spiritual leader.

Commenting on various proposals currently being voiced by presidents, diplomats, and experts, His Beatitude Sviatoslav once again emphasized that Ukraine is not just a territory.

“Ukraine is its people. Ukraine is its nation. And even when it is a question of the occupied territories, we ask at the highest international level to remember those who fell into the clutches of the occupation. We ask that the subject of human rights be returned to the negotiations, above all the right to life and freedom, and in our case, the right to be Ukrainian, to belong to the multimillion-strong Ukrainian people,” emphasized the Primate.

Should the aggressor, according to His Beatitude Sviatoslav, impose its neo-colonial ideology on the minds of presidents, diplomats, and the international community, this ideology will erode the heart, soul, mind, and consciousness of modern man from within.

“Therefore, today, on behalf of the Ukrainian people, I repeat the words that are already familiar to everyone: Ukraine stands, Ukraine fights, Ukraine prays!” emphasized the spiritual leader of Ukrainians.
