His Beatitude Sviatoslav met with a delegation from the Czech Republic
On Thursday, August 18, His Beatitude Sviatoslav met with a delegation from the Czech Republic headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Jaroslav Kurfürst. The meeting took place during the delegation’s visit to Ukraine.
His Beatitude Sviatoslav spoke about the close bonds between Ukraine, particularly the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and the Czech Republic. He mentioned the deanery of the UGCC, which operates in the Czech Republic and takes care of the faithful living there.
There are many Ukrainian migrant workers in the Czech Republic. On top of that there are people who were forced to flee from the war in Ukraine. The Primate thanked the guests for their solidarity and help, particularly for accepting wounded Ukrainian soldiers for rehabilitation and treatment.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, more than 400,000 Ukrainians have arrived in the Czech Republic. Mr. Jaroslav noted that this is a large number, as the country itself is not a big one. All Ukrainians who were forced to leave their homes integrated into Czech families. The Czech people are in solidarity with the Ukrainian people because they themselves remember well their own upheavals related to the Soviet Union.
Hence, the sides expressed their firm belief in the victory of Ukraine and thanked for the opportunity to communicate with His Beatitude Sviatoslav because it helped them to learn better about the events in our state. The Deputy Minister called those present friends of Ukraine and emphasized the readiness of the Czech Republic to continue supporting it.
