Given the scale of the tragedy and the millions of lives that the Stalinist regime took from the Ukrainian land, we are beginning to realize that this was a weapon of mass destruction. We also realize that this nature of crime was the result of the destruction of a sovereign independent Ukrainian state, stated the Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, in a video address to the participants of the Kyiv Security Forum, which took place on November 21 as part of the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor-Genocide.

First of all, His Beatitude Sviatoslav greeted all the forum participants at the regular meeting, emphasizing the importance of the event for ensuring the strength and ability of the Ukrainian people to fight in the current circumstances of Russian aggression.

This year’s Kyiv Security Forum is being held to mark the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932–33. According to the Head of the UGCC, this event is not just a commemoration of the event 90 years ago but a joint discussion of how to put hands and efforts to remember and prevent it.

“Commemorating this anniversary, the anniversary of this tragedy in times of war, we are witnessing how today the Russian occupier is attempting to weaponize every aspect of life, including food,” said His Beatitude Sviatoslav. He added: “Considering security, remembering the Holodomor-Genocide, is a crucial task, especially within this security forum.”

“I want to wish all the participants of this event courage and strength to look into the eyes of those Ukrainians who still suffer from the Holodomor genocide; to find the bravery to look into the eyes of our military, who defend our homeland from the Russian aggressor with their bodies. I encourage to have the courage for modern politicians, public figures, and leaders of civil society to meet the eyes of the Ukrainian people traumatized by this war and together search for the path to security, security that will undoubtedly be achieved through Ukraine’s victory over the Russian invader,” the Primate wished.
