Members of the Permanent Synod of the UGCC gathered for a regular session in Chernivtsi
The 6th (77th) session of the Permanent Synod of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church takes place in Chernivtsi on December 12–15, 2023.
Today, the members of the Permanent Synod are His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the UGCC, who chairs the meeting; Bishop Borys Gudziak, Archbishop and Metropolitan of Philadelphia; Bishop Volodymyr Yushchak, Eparch of Wroclaw-Koszalin, Bishop Bohdan Dziurakh, Apostolic Exarch for Ukrainians of the Byzantine Rite in Germany and Scandinavia, and Bishop Josaphat Moshchych, Eparch of Chernivtsi. Bishop Andriy Khimyak, Auxiliary Bishop of the Kyiv Archeparchy of the UGCC, performs the duties of the Secretary of the Synod.
Along with the working sessions, several events and meetings are also planned for the period of the Permanent Synod of the UGCC. In particular, the bishops will meet with representatives of the Chernivtsi Military Administration and the city authorities. During the joint meetings, the parties will discuss ways to join efforts to minister to the Ukrainian people in the region.
The members of the Permanent Synod will also be able to communicate with local Christian youth on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Society of Ukrainian Catholic Students “Obnova” and with the priestly families of the Chernivtsi Eparchy. One of the main directions of the Pastoral Strategy 2030 is the care of the Christian family. Thus, these meetings will be significant in addressing this matter.
A special event will be the joint prayer, where the bishops and the faithful will pray before the miraculous icon “Hope of the Hopeless,” displayed for adoration and prayer in the Cathedral Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Daily Divine Liturgies will be held there with the participation of the bishops.
The members of the Permanent Synod of the UGCC ask the faithful for prayerful support for the working sessions and their successful conduct.
