Metropolitan Borys Gudziak Visits Odesa
Metropolitan Borys Gudziak of Philadelphia, President of the Ukrainian Catholic University, visited Odesa. He was accompanied by the Exarch of Odesa, Bishop Mykhailo Bubniy, and naval chaplain Father Oleksandr Smerechynsky.
According to the press service of the Odesa Exarchate, the Metropolitan met with the faithful, war-affected individuals, the community of people with hearing impairments, government officials, and business representatives. He visited the parishes of St. Michael the Archangel and the Ascension of the Lord of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) in Odesa.
During the visit, Metropolitan Borys presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral Church of St. Andrew the First-Called.
He also delivered humanitarian aid from the Philadelphia Metropolia of the UGCC and visited the Caritas Odesa Charitable Foundation, where he discussed the foundation’s activities and community assistance with its representatives.
Additionally, Metropolitan Borys visited the Roman Catholic Church community, where he celebrated the Holy Liturgy.
The Exarch of Odesa, Bishop Mykhailo, expressed his gratitude to Metropolitan Borys for supporting the Odesa Eparchy, stating: “This is a unique opportunity to personally thank him for his comprehensive support, including financial aid, and to hear words of encouragement and solidarity from the entire U. S. Catholic community during this difficult struggle of the Ukrainian people for freedom, independence, and statehood.”
