Archbishop and Metropolitan of Curitiba of the UGCC, Volodymyr Kovbych, solemnly consecrated and officially opened the Ukrainian Church of St. Nicholas in Joinville, Brazil. During the Divine Liturgy, Archbishop Volodymyr was concelebrated by Roman Catholic Archbishop Francisco Carlos Bach of Joinville and numerous clergy. The event gathered a significant number of faithful along with representatives of civil authorities.

In his sermon, Archbishop Volodymyr highlighted the profound significance of St. Nicholas, to whom the new church is dedicated, emphasizing that he exemplifies “how to be kind and merciful, following the example of Jesus.” The archbishop also expressed gratitude to the priests supporting the Ukrainian community, the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate, and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Joinville for their assistance in the church’s construction.

Archbishop Francisco Carlos Bach praised the efforts of the Ukrainian community, who worked diligently over many years to establish this church. He stressed the importance of not only having a church building but also fostering encounters with the Lord. He further acknowledged the impact of the Ukrainian Catholic Church’s pastoral work in Joinville, both in attracting new faithful and preserving Ukrainian culture.
