Most. Rev. Brian Baida Presides Over Divine Liturgy at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Kyiv
On Sunday, June 2, the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv was led by Most. Rev. Bishop Brian Baida, Eparch of Toronto and Eastern Canada of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
Bishop Brian was accompanied by Father Yaroslav Lazoryk, rector of Saints Cyril and Methodius Parish in St. Catharines, Canada. Most. Rev. Andriy Khimyak, Auxiliary Bishop of the Kyiv Archeparchy, concelebrated with the bishop.
During his sermon at the Patriarchal Cathedral, Bishop Brian stressed the significance of the encounter with Jesus Christ as a path to conversion, communion, and solidarity. Commenting on the passage from the Holy Gospel about the Samaritan woman’s encounter with Jesus, he called on the faithful to reflect on where and how they meet Christ in their lives. The bishop emphasized that each of us is called to experience this encounter.
“We may ask ourselves: Where does our encounter with Christ take place? Is our encounter with Jesus similar to the encounter of the Samaritan woman? Where is the well where our meeting with Jesus happens today? We are called to meet Christ,” said the bishop.
“Dear brothers and sisters in Christ! I believe that today, the Lord God speaks to you and me in a way he spoke to the Samaritan woman. May each of us meet Christ in truth praying in this church, in the sacrament of Confession and the Eucharist,” he called.
At the end of the Liturgy, Bishop Andriy Khimyak, Auxiliary Bishop of the Kyiv Archeparchy, greeted the guests and expressed gratitude to the people of Canada for their support of Ukraine and Ukrainians who were forced to flee the war and found temporary refuge in Canada.
