Pope Francis expressed his condolences upon the death of father of His Beatitude Sviatoslav
The Holy Father Francis sent the Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, a letter of condolences upon his father’s death.
“Your Beatitude, it is with deep sadness that I received the news of the departure to the eternity of your dear father, Mr. Yuriy Shevchuk,” reads Pope Francis’ letter of condolence.
“In this moment of human pain, I want to express my closeness to you, my sincere condolences and assure you that my heart is with you and those who mourn the passing of dear Mr. Yuriy”, the Holy Father wrote.
Pope Francis assured the Head of the UGCC that he was praying for the soul of the newly departed.
“I entrust the soul of your beloved father to the merciful Lord, praying that He will grant him the grace of eternal peace, — wrote the pope and added: — I send you and your next of kin my blessing.”
As reported, Mr. Yuriy Shevchuk passed away on December 5, 2022, at the Summa Hospital in Akron (USA) at 79. The first funeral services were held in the USA. Mr. Yuriy will be buried in Stryi. The date of the funeral in Ukraine will be announced later.
