The Head of the UGCC met with Thabo Makgoba, the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Cape Town

On Monday, December 19, in Kyiv, the Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, His Beatitude Sviatoslav met with the Archbishop of Cape Town and the Metropolitan of the Anglican Church of South Africa, Thabo Makgoba. Fr. Ihor Shaban, head of the UGCC Commission on interreligious and interfaith relations, also participated in the meeting.

This is the first visit of Archbishop Thabo Makgoba to Ukraine. Its purpose is to see the terrible consequences of Russian aggression in Ukraine and hear eyewitness testimonies.

At the beginning of the meeting, His Beatitude Sviatoslav thanked Archbishop Thabo Makgoba for his visit, which is a sign of support and solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

The Head of the Church told the archbishop about his recent visit to the Donetsk Exarchate of the UGCC, during which he visited Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, as well as the de-occupied villages of the Kherson region. The Primate shared his impressions of what he saw and talked about the suffering of people constantly hit with missile strikes.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav drew attention to the prayer that supports the Ukrainian people, gives them hope for the future, and invites the archbishop to pray for Ukraine.

We should add that, while visiting Ukraine, Archbishop Thabo Makgoba also paid a visit to the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv.
