The war Ukraine is waging is a war for Europe and human dignity: The Head of the French Bishops
Before the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Archbishop Éric de Moulins-Beaufort, head of the French Bishops’ Conference, wrote a letter of solidarity to His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

In his letter, Archbishop Beaufort expressed his condolences to the Ukrainian people for the losses they have suffered in the aftermath of the war. He also assured that the bishops and people of France are closely following the ongoing hostilities with concern and sorrow.
The head of the Catholic bishops of France recalled his visit to Ukraine in September 2022: “At that time, I had the opportunity to express my admiration for the efforts you are making in your daily addresses, providing spiritual support to the Ukrainian people in times of war.”
Archbishop Beaufort invited His Beatitude Sviatoslav to visit Paris in the fall of 2024 on behalf of the French bishops.
“The Archbishop of Paris and I would be delighted to host you and organize a series of celebrations and events so that you can share your vision with the French people,” Archbishop Beaufort wrote.
“We believe it is important,” the head of the French bishops added, “to show everyone what you are saying so eloquently: that the war Ukraine is waging is a war for Europe and for the idea of civilization, for human dignity created in the image of God, for international life as a friendship between peoples, not as domination and subjugation.”
