Russia will now intensify its attacks on this society, as Germany is entering a year of election campaigns. Thus, the united voices of the Catholic Church of Germany and the Ukrainian Church will stir the conscience of Germans in support of Ukraine. His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, said this on the 135th week of the great war.

The Primate expressed sorrow as we continue to count the days and nights of this terrible tragedy. The Ukrainian land continues to burn under the strikes and bombs of the Russian occupiers. Blood continues to flow, people continue to die. This week we have prayed especially for the northern border of Ukraine. The forced evacuation of Ukrainians from this area is ongoing. Our prayers today are for the heroic Pokrovsk, for the Ukrainian army, which, as we know, has finally stopped the enemy’s advance in this direction…

At the age of 76, His Eminence Bishop Wasyl Medwit, one of the bishops who revived our Church in Kyiv, in central and eastern Ukraine, passed away in Warsaw after a serious illness. “The Lord God, by His wondrous providence, allowed me to accompany Bishop Wasyl in the last hours of his life. Here in Warsaw, together with the monks of the Order of St. Basil the Great, we prayed for the repose of his soul,” said the Head of the Church.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav noted: “Despite our losses and pain, we are standing. We are wounded, yet not defeated. We are afflicted, yet resilient. And so once again we say: Ukraine stands! Ukraine fights! Ukraine prays!”

The past week was especially significant, as our Church’s vast advocacy mission was carried out across different continents, countries, languages, and cultures. In particular, at the invitation of the bishops of Ecuador, Bishop Hryhoriy Komar participated in the Eucharistic Congress held in Latin America in Quito, speaking on behalf of Ukraine to the Catholics of this part of this vast continent. He debunked the myths of Russian propaganda that are spreading across Latin America.

“The Lord God called me to Germany,” said the spiritual leader, “At the invitation of the German bishops, I took part in the annual religious, public and political event St. Michael’s Reception, which gathers German leaders, public and political figures. I had the opportunity to address this wide and highly important audience, in particular, Chancellor Olaf Scholz.”

He emphasized that Germany is now a crucial partner for Ukraine. However, Russian propagandists claim that of all European countries, German society is the most vulnerable to the onslaught of Russian propaganda.
