UGCC Hieromonk Makariy Dutka Collects and Donates One Million UAH for Combat Medic’s Prosthetics
Hieromonk Makariy Dutka of the Holy Dormition Univ Lavra (UGCC Studite Order), in collaboration with the “Birds of Victory” charity project, has donated one million hryvnias to fund prosthetics for Junior Sergeant Oleksandr Moldakhovsky of the 24th Brigade, who lost his leg during a combat mission. This was reported in a video by Zhyve TV.
Oleksandr Moldakhovsky recounted the circumstances of his injury, which led to the loss of his leg: “On the evening of June fifteenth, we were advancing to new positions, intending to enter Chasiv Yar. However, part of the city had already been occupied by the enemy, and we came under fire. I sustained minor injuries… Thank God, everyone came out alive. There were four other soldiers with me.”
Hieromonk Makariy Dutka expressed his belief that the day they raised one million hryvnias was blessed: “The main credit, aside from God, goes to the people who donated—the parish priests and their faithful. It’s remarkable that ten of our parishes, both in Ukraine and abroad, contributed to this sum.”
Oleksandr Moldakhovsky is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the Superhumans Clinic in Lviv.
Sofia Voznytsia, a clinic specialist, noted that Oleksandr had been fitted with a lower limb prosthesis featuring a mechanical knee joint. This prosthesis offers a high level of mobility, allowing him to move quickly over long distances. “In the future, a fighter can try running and riding a bike on it. This prosthesis won’t limit him,” the clinic worker added.
“The specialists are working very diligently on my rehabilitation. If you’re determined, you can get back on your feet quickly. If someone didn’t believe in anything before the war, they start believing from the first day of it,” the warrior reflected.
