Ukrainian bishops are creating a broad international coalition in support of the Motherland: Head of the UGCC on the 67th week of the war
Today, we, the Ukrainian bishops, are looking for friends, creating a broad international coalition in support of the Motherland, and, apparently, every time we pray for our military, the boys and girls at the front. We are looking for ways how to help overcome the humanitarian crisis caused by the war and how to treat those injured by it, stated the Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, in his address on the 67th week of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukrainian land.
The Primate said that over the past week, an important event took place in our Church — a regular session of the Permanent Synod of Bishops, which this time was called in Wroclaw, in western Poland, and noted that about 300,000 Ukrainians are currently living in the city and its surroundings. So the bishops were working on the pastoral care of Ukrainian emigrants and refugees.
The Head of the Church spoke about a series of ministerial meetings last week as part of a meeting of the Permanent Synod of Bishops of the UGCC. The bishops sought to understand how to serve Ukrainian emigrants and refugees worldwide in a fruitful way through collaboration with local authorities.
“We tried to be with our people, to listen to their voice, and thus to be their voice before the local authorities and the local church,” the patriarch emphasized.
“When we met with Ukrainians, we always asked them to dream about the future and Ukraine — that being temporarily outside their native land, they should acquire the appropriate skills, experience and broaden the horizons of their worldview to return home and rebuild their homeland from the ruins,” said His Beatitude Sviatoslav.
The Head of the UGCC sincerely thanked all the people from different parts of the world, in particular from European countries, for their favor and compassion for Ukrainians, opening their homes, churches, and hearts to them: “Thank you for the fact that today, here in Wroclaw, we can feel that the future of Ukraine is being forged — revived, rebuilt.”
