“We bid farewell to the father who bestowed upon our Church and people the honor of having a Patriarch”: reburial of Yuriy Shevchuk begins in Stryi
On May 19, the reburial of the blessed memory of Yuriy Shevchuk, father of the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, began at the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Stryi, Lviv region. The Parastas was led by the Eparch of Stryi, Bishop Taras Senkiv, in concelebration with many bishops and priests of the UGCC.
His Beatitude Sviatoslav was present at the funeral prayer.
“Today, this church says goodbye to its parishioner. He had not been here for a long time, but during his last stay in Stryi, he was here every morning at 8 o’clock,” said Bishop Taras Senkiv in his sermon.
“We are saying goodbye to our father, who gave our church and our people a patriarch, as well as a priest,” said Bishop Taras. “We are saying goodbye to a very bright, deeply sincere man.”
The funeral services of the head of the UGCC’s father are being broadcast live by Zhyve Television.
