Auxiliary bishop elected for Ternopil-Zboriv Archeparchy of the UGCC
On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, the Vatican reports, His Holiness Pope Francis blessed the decision of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC to elect Father Volodymyr Firman as Auxiliary Bishop of the Ternopil-Zboriv Archeparchy of the UGCC. He was granted the titular seat of Limesa.
Biographical note
The nominee, Bishop Volodymyr Firman, was born on May 8, 1976, in Zarvanytsia, a village in Ternopil Oblast, Ukraine.
After studying at the Ternopil Higher Theological Seminary, he was ordained a deacon for the Ternopil-Zboriv Archeparchy on May 9, 1999. On October 8, 2000, he was ordained to the priesthood.
Later he studied religious studies in Lublin Catholic University, 2004–2006, and administrative development at Ukrainian Catholic University, 2016.
He has held the following positions: administrator, since 2000, and later rector, since 2016, of the Marian Spiritual Center “Zarvanytsia,” vice-rector of the Ternopil Higher Theological Seminary, since 2004, and economist of the Ternopil-Zboriv Archdiocese, since 2004. Since 2014, he occasionally serves as a volunteer military chaplain.
