Bishop Mykola Met with the Apostolic Nuncio in Papua New Guinea
On 20 September, Bishop Mykola Cardinal Bychok, Eparch of Melbourne, arrived in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, at the invitation of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands.
On 21 September, as part of his visit, Bishop Mykola met with Archbishop Maurizio Bravi, Apostolic Nuncio to Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands. As the press office of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands later noted, this fraternal encounter reflected the deep unity of the Church and echoed the prayer of Christ: “That they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you” (John 17:21).
During their sincere and open conversation, Bishop Mykola spoke with the Apostolic Nuncio about the situation in Ukraine, the challenges facing the Ukrainian people as a result of the ongoing war, and the life and ministry of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in these difficult circumstances. Archbishop Maurizio Bravi, in turn, expressed his solidarity with the Ukrainian people and assured Bishop Mykola of his support and prayers for Ukraine.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Bishop Mykola presented the Apostolic Nuncio with a copy of Persecuted for the Truth, a book dedicated to the new martyrs of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church who were persecuted for their faith under the Soviet regime.
